The arrival of spring, with its glimpses of sun and blue skies, has me itching to freshen up my home to welcome the desperately awaited long summer days. As much as I love cosy winter days spent curled up in front of the fire watching an episode of Modern Family, I am a summer girl at heart and I cannot wait for sunny evenings, al fresco dining and finally getting to wear my adored summer wardrobe again!
With this in mind and the dreaded spring cleaning looming upon us, what better time to think about giving our homes a mini summer makeover? I have put a little list together of ways we can brighten up our homes and give them some summer glow, even if our wallets and purses are still looking a bit sad and empty.
Invest in new cushion covers
Sometimes all our interior needs to freshen up is a pop of colour, a new pattern, a little splash of something new and exciting. A great way of achieving this, without having to spend a lot of money and time, is by changing your cushion covers to something more vibrant and bold. This will instantly lift the room and add a whole new dimension to your design. H&M, IKEA and West Elm have some beautiful covers this season, at some beautiful prices! – see below for my favourite picks.
Opt for Pastels
Due to their calming elegant nature, pastel colours are the perfect way to add subtle spring accents to your home. Even a small addition like these mega cute sweet Flamingo Salt and Pepper shakers from West Elm on your dining table, or the lovely mint candle holder from Anthropologie scattered around your living room, will bring a glimpse of freshness and fun to your home transitioning it smoothly from winter to summer.
Bring the outside in
Lush green plants have the ability to make your home feel alive and vibrant and at a time where everything is blossoming around you they are an absolute must have to get your home summer ready.
Opt for big exotic leaves such as lush areca palms and monstera for amazing holiday vibes:
Swap your Art Prints
While Black and White Art looks beautiful and elegant in winter, in summer our interiors need a little more vibrancy. It is therefore time to take down those monochrome prints and replace them with bold and colourful art or photography.
I love this funny and stunning photography by Gray Malin I came across the other day. His whole portfolio captures the beautiful things in life and is perfect for adding some sunshine to your home. Here are a few of my favourite picks:
