Maybe it is the anticipation of spring or the fact I am writing this from sunny Rio de Janeiro, but I am currently obsessed with soft pink interiors. They are so dreamy and delicate, I cannot get enough of them.
One that has been particularly stuck in my mind is Miriam Alia’s “Vivienda en Claudio” Project in the Barrio de Salamanca in Madrid. Miriam Alia is a Spanish interior designer who focuses her incredible talent on furniture and residential design. Her style is eclectic and feminine with a distinctive use of pastel and neon colours.
In this project Alia uses a stunning soft pink foundation with an array of bright-coloured focal points and textures, to create an apartment that is full of flair and character. Intriguing ornaments, transformed classic furniture pieces and captivating artwork bring the space to life in a fascinating manner.
Her design is something different, something that stops you in your tracks and has you wanting to discover more. My favourite type of design. As unusual as this pink interior is, it is equally as mesmerising and transports you into the charming 60s with a feminine twist.

The Living Room
Imagine a space that is powerful and striking and full of stories. That is what Miriam Alia achieves in her design of the living and dining area. An exotic peacock and roaring leopards surround a bold pink chequered sofa on a zebra rug in the living area, creating a theatrical atmosphere. From here we get a glimpse of the futuristic dining room, which is a pop of bright colours against the graceful living room. This is a place for fun. Even though the atmosphere of these two rooms is different they flow into each other seamlessly.
This is the most eccentric part of the flat and as such the most captivating. The walls are decorated in a variety of bold colours and patterned wall paper, creating an intriguing environment and a quirky backdrop for the chosen furniture and decorations. Miriam Alia mix and matches restyled 60s chairs with a beautiful pink dining chair on a gorgeous flowered rug in the dining area, whilst opting for white kitchen counters against delightful fuchsia gold barstools in the kitchen. It’s a bit mad, almost something out of Alice in Wonderland, but that is what makes it so unique and so incredibly charming. Beautiful.
The bedroom is probably my favourite part of this space. It’s dreamy and so cosy – a retreat from the more eclectic living area. Think fluffy pink ballerina wonderland. Here, Miriam Alia layers different soft textures such as the pink carpet, the faux fur cushions and the light patterned wallpaper for a gentle feminine look.
